Anyone can write.

I was having a conversation with my someone the other day about their daughter. His daughter wants to be a writer, she is sixteen and that is what she wants to do. When he told me this, I don’t know why but I thought of the Disney movie “Ratatouille” and Gusteau’s book, “Anyone Can Cook”.

With writing that is the way I feel. There was comment on a post a while ago. The comment said “I would love to write but seriously lack talent.” I believe just as in the movie that anyone can write. There are a writers  that are better at it than others, but we all have to find out way.

Writers are not as much of an exclusive club than they used to be. There are classes you can take at your local university or online classes through Gotham Writer’s Workshop. I did a course with Gotham Writer’s and I really liked it. The way the classes are structured worked for me and I learned a lot.

My favorite writing quote is from Ernest Hemingway, “It’s none of their business that you have to learn to write. Let them think you were born that way.” Every time I get stuck on my writing I think of that quote.

Those that want to be taken serious have to put in the effort just like any endeavor, but I believe anyone can become a writer. If you can imagine it you can write it.

Believing in yourself is the most important thing. No one will believe in you if you don’t do it first.

So to anyone that thinks they can’t write I say you can and never let anyone tell you otherwise. There will be detractors, there are always people that see you doing something they want to do but they don’t have the guts to do it. It takes inner strength to ignore them, strength of mind.

  1. Great quote you shared by Ernest Hemingway, “It’s none of their business that you have to learn to write. Let them think you were born that way.”

People who look at writers and think somehow writing magically appears forget how hard we work at writing every single day!

I completely agree. It is hard work to write. Putting everything into something every day takes a lot out of you. Thanks for your comments

  2. Yes thank you for this and the Hemingway quote. I like your blog. Check out mine if you have time, I have some similar posts here and there.
