2 yr old and toddler bed issues

Apparently we might have made a mistake with the Princess. We changed her crib into a toddler bed and she has been getting up the last few nights wanting to sleep with us.

This didn’t happen before because she couldn’t get out of the crib for obvious reasons. Now we are stuck wondering if we changed her bed too soon and that we may have to switch it back, which will be an ordeal by itself.

We thought–possibly wrongly–that since she is the same age the King was when we changed the crib to a toddler bed she would be fine. Well, that’s not how it’s turning out.

The first night she screamed, my wife put her back in her bed, laid with her until she fell asleep. Once my wife left the room, Princess woke up.

Last night Princess woke up at 2 a.m. screaming. Not sure if it was from a bad dream or what but she did not want to go back in her bed. My wife–bless her soul—stayed up with her and tried to get her to sleep. Princess wanted none of that.

We finally relented and let her stay in our bed at 5. My wife had to get up for work at 6. So she had a rough day, mine was no better.

This next week begins the second phase of Convention Season in Las Vegas which starts with The Consumer Electronics Show (CES). This is the week before CES and there is nothing going on this week. New Years has come and gone and so have the tourists for New Years.

We are in a holding pattern until CES starts.

  1. Oh Brian.. If you let her in your bed you will have another issue. Mom has been there. Good luck to both of you..

Many of the phases kids go through are exhausting. Then one day they are driving! Good luck. Princess will get used to her big girl bed eventually and in another month you will be sleeping again! (hopefully sooner~)

Thanks Susie. It’s really taking its toll on my wife and I. I’m hoping it changes soon this is getting old soon and its only been a few days.

  3. It would be just too easy if the 2nd kid followed/acted like the 1st kid. They are who they are, to stay sane, you just have to roll with it….and get used to sleep deprivation…..someone once told me once you had a baby it would be 20 years before you had another good nights’ sleep…hope that isn’t always true. (Take lots of long long walks?…Exhaustion works..sometimes on kids, too.)
