The next level of understanding is one that we avoid, we dodge and we refuse. Our focus is usually on what we want, not what we should strive for.
The next level of life and change creates things in us that we can’t focus upon. We think about these things as if they’re only pursuits and not goals. Goals are what we should strive for.
Our next level is taking our goals, the things that we think about. Our life, children, spouse, family and career are these things. What do we want for us, our kids, spouse, family and career? What is our endgame? The place we want to end with when we’re done with our current journey.
Do we want to go out in a hail of fire and brimstone, like some who’ve gone before us? Do we want to make a difference in the lives of those around us?
What is it we want to do to make a difference? Do we write the novel that would change lives? Do we paint something in a way that art critics are blown away?
So many questions in life, so little answers.
Finding the answers to these questions is something each of us should strive for. discovering what we want from life. Knowing that we’ve given something to humanity is something we should strive for.
Living for the next day, and the day after that, until we find our next level of understanding. We have this life and it is ours to learn from, to take the knowledge we’ve gained and turn it into something that we can look at and say, “I can move on and be completely happy with what I’ve done.”
Our lives should be lived toward that end. Toward finding that next level that places us in that position. Our next level is being comfortable with who we are and what we’ve done in our lives. Working toward the next level should be your goal. Are you working toward it?
Are you taking it to the next level? Answer in the comments.
The blog will be moving to a self-hosted site on July 1st. The site will be at http://www.brianbbaker.com. I hope I will see you over there.
